A newly-discovered object can be added to the list of strange items unearthed in Siberia. At the risk of sounding shallow, it seems that every time a hole is dug up in Siberia, something unexplained turns up.
One such object was uncovered in the Kuznetsk Basin in southwestern Russia earlier this month. The basin covers an area of 27,000 miles and is home to one of the largest coal mining operations in the world. The unusual object was discovered at a depth of 130 feet (40 meters) by a team of miners working for the Kuzbassrazrezugol mining company.
Boris Glazkov, the man who first laid eyes on the objects said he immediately noticed something unusual in the excavator bucket:
I have to say it wasn’t hard to see as it was really distinctive and large. I’ve never seen anything like this object, which is obviously man-made, out here in the middle of nowhere. It is a real mystery.
Buried deep underground were two stone disks but unfortunately the smaller of the two broke as it was being removed.
There were actually two similar objects, but the first one broke as it was being pulled out of the ground by the excavator bucket. We thought we saw something sure, because it broke into pieces, but when the second one appeared we stopped work and carefully removed it from the bucket,” said Arthur Presnyakov, one of the workers.
The surviving object is a stone disc that bears an eerily resemblance to the classic UFO shape. And with a diameter of four feet and a weight of 440 pounds, it certainly isn’t small.
Mammoth bones have been discovered in the area at a depth of 80 feet and have been dated at around 10,000 years old. The fact that the stone disks were buried deeper suggests they might be even older.
This discovery raises numerous questions. It goes without saying that nobody knows if the ‘stone UFOs’ are man-made, natural formations or something else. Nonetheless, some have gone as far as saying that the mysterious disks fell from the sky and were buried long ago.
Even if the objects lack engravings on their surface, people have already made connections between them and the enigmatic Dropa stones due to their similarity in age and size.
Others believe that the similarity between the disks and what we call flying saucers is evidence of aliens visiting Earth in prehistoric times. Could these objects have been crafted by early humans in the aftermath of encounters with extraterrestrials?
Did they serve as reminders? There is certainly room for speculation. Until archaeologists manage to shed some light onto this issue, it’s anybody’s guess as to what they are.
Even if the disks turn out to be mundane or natural objects, this find is certainly an interesting one.
